Mazak Showcases the Productive MULTIPLEX 6300-II Y at DISCOVER 2013

Multi-Tasking machine features dual spindles, dual turrets for enhanced part processing

FLORENCE, Ky., Oct. 8, 2013 – At DISCOVER 2013, Mazak featured its MULTIPLEX 6300-II Y Multi-Tasking CNC turning center. Designed for enhanced single-setup, mid-size lot production and continuous operations, the machine incorporates dual spindles, dual turrets with milling tools and Y-axis capability.

The twin spindles on the MULTIPLEX 6300-II Y each offer a 10” chuck size and a bore size of 3.46” in diameter, and each delivers 30 hp and maximum speeds of 4,000 rpm. Since both spindles offer identical performance, part-processing flexibility is greatly increased. The machine’s twin VDI-type turrets hold 12 tools each, and rotary tools can be mounted in any position. Y-axis travels of +/- 3.03” and live tooling capabilities of the turrets further increase Done-In-One® productivity.

Identical twin spindles and identical twin turrets with Y-axis travel allow for unique part machining on the MULTIPLEX 6300-II Y. Long shaft parts can be held using both spindles and machined with synchronized spindle rotation. Or the first operations of parts can be done with the No. 1 spindle/turret, and then transferred to the No. 2 spindle/turret for completing remaining operations. Alternatively, two parts can be completed simultaneously and independently at both spindles/turrets and using the machine’s center partition. Continuous simultaneous machining by both spindles is possible thanks to automatic workpiece transfer from one spindle to the other. Their synchronized rotation also delivers high-accuracy for operations involving longer shaft work with opposite part ends chucked in each spindle.

Both left and right machine spindles are equipped with the Mazak Tool Eye unit. When tool tips are brought into contact with these units, the Tool Eye data management system automatically registers tool position information to the machine’s CNC. The system can also be used for tool measurement and tool breakage inspection.

The MULTIPLEX 6300-II Y’s axis travels incorporate Mazak’s MX Hybrid Roller Guide System to deliver levels of durability and reliability that result in long-term accuracy. The innovative way system increases vibration dampening, extends tool life, handles higher load capacities and eliminates tramp oil in the coolant by utilizing a greener grease-based lubrication system.

Mazak equips the MULTIPLEX 6300-II Y with the MATRIX 2 CNC control that provides extremely fast processing speed and reduced cycle times. Through advanced hardware and software functionality, the control delivers unbeatable accuracy and increased productivity to highly complex applications requiring Multi-Tasking operations; full, simultaneous 5-axis machining; and the incorporation of automation. In the case of the MULTIPLEX 6300-II Y, applicable automation includes bar feeders, a gantry robot unit and articulated robots. With these systems, the machine is a self-contained, single automated cell.
