Mazak Demos Highly Versatile INTEGREX i-300ST at DISCOVER 2013

Multi-Tasking machine processes medium and large complex parts in single setups

FLORENCE, Ky., Oct. 8, 2013 – At DISCOVER 2013, the INTEGREX i-300ST showed attendees the high levels of precision and productivity that come with a Multi-Tasking machine that features two turning spindles, a milling spindle and lower turret. Such features make it possible for manufacturers of medium and large complex parts to process first and second machining operations simultaneously or perform required sequential operations on a single workpiece.

Able to handle all processes from raw material input through the final machining, the INTEGREX i-300ST provides dramatic reductions in lead-times and improves workpiece accuracy through the elimination of multiple setups. Plus, its full 5-axis capability makes it possible to easily process fully prismatic parts from solid block or castings, round parts or highly contoured sculptured parts as chucked or bar fed work.

The turning spindles on the INTEGREX i-300ST share high performance capabilities as they both employ a 40 hp integral motor spindle with maximum spindle speeds of 4,000 rpm. For high precision C-axis contouring, the main spindle indexes in 0.0001-degree increments, while the second spindle provides increments of 0.001 degrees. Each spindle features a 10” chuck with a 3.58” bore size.

The INTEGREX i-300ST has a powerful 30-hp, 12,000-rpm milling spindle mounted in the rotating B-axis with a range of 240 degrees in 0.0001-degree indexing increments. For high accuracy of motion, B-axis scale feedback comes standard on the machine. The machine comes standard with a 36-tool automatic tool changer and has a 72-tool option for increased versatility.

For off-centerline operations, the INTEGREX i-300ST provides ample axes travels of 9.84” (250 mm) in Y, 24.21” (615 mm) in X and 62.40” (1,585 mm) in Z; thereby allowing the machine to process a wide range of part sizes and shapes.

The machine’s lower drum turret carries nine tools and can work at either the main or second spindle with the same tool, allowing the turret to perform balanced cutting operations on one part working in tandem with the machine’s vertical milling spindle. There is also the option for milling capability with the lower turret. All of which provides the flexibility to process a workpiece’s second operation in the machine’s second spindle or to perform first and second operations simultaneously on one workpiece.

The INTEGREX i-300ST features Mazak’s new MATRIX 2 CNC control. Within the control are both enhanced hardware and software functionalities that make the control easy to use while also delivering high accuracy and increased productivity. Control hardware performance is much faster with higher processing speeds for small increment operation. Furthermore, a 5-axis spline interpolation function included in the control’s software provides smooth toolpaths from long block-by-block programs, easy tool vector control and shorter cycle times as well as superior surface finishes.

For increased machine utilization, the INTEGREX i-300ST is compatible with several forms of automation, such as bar feeders, gantry loaders and articulating robots.
