Milling, drilling, tapping and turning capabilities ensure shortest part-processing times
FLORENCE, Ky., Oct. 8, 2013 – Mazak demonstrated the high performance and unsurpassed production value – for small to medium-sized parts – of its QUICK TURN SMART (QTS) 250M CNC turning center at DISCOVER 2013. Multi-tasking capabilities together with speed and a user-friendly CNC control make the machine ideal for high production and ensure the shortest possible part cycle times. 
From machining aluminum to heavy-duty cutting of steel, the QUICK TURN SMART 250M is designed for a variety of machining applications thanks to powerful spindles and rugged machine construction. Its headstock features a 10” chuck, mounted on a 4,000-rpm, 35-hp integrated spindle motor with a 3” spindle bore and maximum bar capacity of 3” in diameter.
The QUICK TURN SMART 250M also features a 4,500-rpm, 7.5-hp rotary tool spindle on its fast-indexing 12-position, non-lift drum-style turret. With basic milling, drilling and tapping functionality, the machine makes it possible to complete multiple processes within a single machine cycle. And when paired with an automatic bar feeder, the machine delivers reliable, long, unattended production runs.
The turning center uses Mazak’s MX Hybrid Roller Guide System, which dampens vibration, extends tool life and provides faster acceleration/deceleration rates to shorten cycle times. The system delivers high rigidity and smooth cutting.
Mazak’s SMART CNC control simplifies operations on the QUICK TURN SMART 250M. The control is designed for ease of operation and offers a pointing device, acting like a mouse, and USB port for downloading programs. To increase versatility, the control allows for both conversational and EIA/ISO programming formats.
The machine’s NC servo-driven tailstock is fully programmable, and through the part program, it will move to known positions and contact workpieces with consistent holding pressure. Further, because of its positive independent drive system, the tailstock can be used to drill holes on a shaft centerline adding versatility to the jobs it can process.
