FLORENCE, Ky., November, 2021 – At DISCOVER 2021, Mazak demonstrated the power of its VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER 160 XP Horizontal Machining Center with full 5-axis capabilities for fast and accurate processing of medium and large aerospace parts.
Featuring a 160-hp, 30,000 rpm HSK-A63 spindle with an integral motor-spindle design, the VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER 160 XP delivers power and rigidity to cut a wide range of challenging materials. Standard tool storage is 30 tools, and an optional 60-tool magazine is available for increased machining versatility.
The machine’s large, 157" (4000 mm) x 63" (1600 mm) vertically-oriented work table accommodates workpieces up to 6,615 lbs (3,000 kg). It also positions horizontally to facilitate part loading and setup. An optional rotary-type two-table changer further boosts productivity. X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure 165.35" (4200 mm), 59.06" (1500 mm) and 21.65" (550 mm) respectively, enabling processing of a wide range of part sizes.
For full 5-axis capabilities, the machine’s rotary/tilt table provides +/- 200˚ C-axis rotation and +/- 100˚ A-axis tilt. 50-rpm direct-drive motors power both C- and A-axes.
Mazak integrated the VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER 160 XP’s machine base, column and table into a special box-type design that ensures consistent, highly-rigid cutting performance, while fast rapid traverse rates ensure high levels of productivity. An advanced coolant and chip disposal system offers efficient chip evacuation and further stabilizes the machine’s cutting processes by minimizing heat displacement.
