Mazak Canada and its distributor Machine Toolworks will showcase advancements in large-diameter, shaft-type part production as well as CNC performance in booth 705 at WMTS 2015, taking place June 15-17 at the Edmonton EXPO Center in Alberta. Applications experts from both companies will also be available to discuss ways in which attendees from all industry segments can optimize their part manufacturing operations.
Mazak will demonstrate how its QUICK TURN NEXUS (QTN) 450-II M turning center with Multi-Tasking capabilities brings high productivity and reduced cycle times to large-part manufacturers in industries such as heavy vehicle equipment and energy. The company will also run simulations of its new MAZATROL SmoothX CNC that transforms how multi-axis machines perform 5-axis and contouring operations.
WMTS attendees will see that the QTN 450-II M provides high-performance and value via its single setup turning and milling operations that allow for improved throughput.
A key element of this machine is its 457 mm (18") chuck mounted on a 50-hp, 2,000-rpm integrated spindle motor main turning spindle for heavy-duty metal removal. The spindle also serves as a C-axis that indexes at 0.0001-degree increments to accurately position parts for square facing and slotting cuts and precisely drilled holes. Additionally, the C-axis spindle is a full-function CNC controlled axis for milling.
The machine also utilizes a 12-position drum turret, and 10-hp, 4,000-rpm rotary tool spindle for milling, drilling, and tapping operations, allowing many processes to be completed in a single machine cycle.
WMTS attendees interested in seeing the industry’s fastest, most progressive machine tool control should stop by the booth to experience Mazak’s new MAZATROL SmoothX CNC that officially launched this spring.
Mazak developed every function of the MAZATROL SmoothX CNC in direct response to real-world issues and customer input. As a result, it operates four times faster than previous-generation controls. And overall, users benefit from shorter machining cycle times, especially in fine increment programs for simultaneous 5-axis operations and free-form die-mold machining.
The MAZATROL SmoothX CNC is key to Mazak’s new SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY, which is a complete process-performance platform that spans the entire part-production landscape, from programming to metal removal to automation to data collection. The CNC also works alongside new machine hardware and servo systems to bring improved speed, functionality and ergonomics to complex part production.
