Mazak recently highlighted its latest 5-axis and Multi-Tasking solutions for extra-large, heavy part production through interactive multi-media displays and special presentations – as the machines were much too big for the show floor. Among those machines was the new VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER (HP) 160 5-axis horizontal machining center for the aerospace industry.
The VORTEX HP 160 features a special symmetrical-base-column integrated construction – combined with an advanced coolant system and efficient chip evacuation – to ensure rigid, reliable and precise machining.
Because of its large 157" x 49" vertically oriented worktable, the VORTEX HP 160 easily accommodates a maximum load capacity of 6,614 lbs. Users can also position the worktable horizontally for quick and easy loading and setup.
The machine comes standard equipped with a powerful 60-hp, 26,000-rpm HSK-A63 integral motor spindle that quickly and easily cuts through a wide variety of challenging materials. An optional 30,000-rpm HSK-A63 spindle is also available for applications that require even higher cutting speeds.
The VORTEX HP 160 comes standard equipped with a tool magazine storage capacity of 30 tools, while a 60-tool magazine option is also available for increased machining versatility.
Machine travels are 165.35 in X, 59.06 in Y and 21.65 in Z, and rapid traverse rates are 1,380 ipm in X and 1,176 ipm in both Y and Z. The VORTEX HP 160’s rotary/tilt table has 200 degrees of rotation in the C-axis (360 degrees optional) and +/- 110 degrees of tilt in the A-axis.
Overall, with its high-speed spindle and full 5-axis machining capability, the VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER 160 delivers unsurpassed part processing efficiency and some of the fastest metal removal rates in the aerospace industry.
