Mazak Debuts Cost-effective Milling and Turning of VCU 400T

Mazak recently introduced turning capabilities into its simple but innovative VERTICAL CENTER UNIVERSAL (VCU) Series of small-footprint vertical machining centers with the VCU 400T. Building on the success of the series, which focuses on cost-effective small parts production, the VCU 400T is perfect for shops looking to take their manufacturing operations to the next level of productivity.

The VCU 400T employs a robust 15-hp, 10,000-rpm (12,000-rpm optional) HSK-63A milling spindle and powerful 2,500-rpm turning spindle to effectively machine all common materials, including steel, aluminum and cast iron. The turning spindle has complete C-axis table rotation that indexes in 0.0001-degree increments to offer full contouring operations.

A servo-driven automatic tool changer significantly reduces non-cut times on the VCU 400T by quickly exchanging tools and getting the spindle back in the cut in the shortest time possible. The reliable tool monitoring on the machine maximizes production efficiency and lowers operating costs via early problem detection. Tool storage capacities of 20 or 30 tools ensure continuous machining operation and increased versatility.

Featuring X, Y and Z travels in 19.88" x 15.74" x 20.08", respectively, and a 945-ipm rapid traverse rate in each, the machine is able to further shorten its non-cut times.

The Mazak MX Hybrid Roller Guide System on the VCU 400T enables the machine to deliver high levels of durability and reliability, resulting in long-term accuracy. The innovative way system increases vibration dampening, extends tool life, handles higher load capacities and eliminates tramp oil in the coolant by utilizing a greener grease-based lubrication system.

The MATRIX NEXUS 2 CNC on the VCU 400T offers EIA/ISO and conversational programming for versatility and user-friendly operation. It also incorporates a wide variety of advanced functions, including heat displacement control and vibration control, for increased productivity through high-speed, high-accuracy machining.

The VCU 400T’s small footprint measures 84.65" wide x 124.21" deep x 125.04" high and features a built-in multi-tap transformer to further conserve valuable floor space.
