FLORENCE, Ky., month day, 2016 – Mazak’s MEGA TURN 500M Vertical Turning Center brings unmatched speed, torque and accuracy to large part production. The MEGA TURN 500M small-footprint machine can be automated within a minimal amount of required floor space, which is especially beneficial in automotive parts manufacturing applications.
Available in 12", 15" and 18" chuck sizes, the machine has a powerful 30-hp, 3,000-rpm integral spindle/motor headstock that minimizes vibration and generates up to 596 ft-lbs of torque. The headstock also provides full high-precision C-axis positioning in 0.0001-degree increments. Plus, the machine’s vertical orientation works with gravity to make for easier loading and unloading as well as assist in chip evacuation.
In addition to its heavy-duty turning capabilities, the machine’s 4,000-rpm rotary tool spindle brings 70.4 ft-lbs of torque to drilling, milling and tapping operations, while the tool turret offers rapid tool indexing for 12 tools.
Along with the tool turret, the machine features a Capto 6 automatic tool changer with a 10-position magazine. It not only increases the machine’s tool capacity from 12 to 21 tools for uninterrupted and flexible part processing, but also reduces interference issues when long tools are used on large diameter workpieces.
Mazak offers the MEGA TURN 500M equipped with either the MAZATROL SmoothG or SmoothC CNC controls. Both controls offer EIA/ISO and conversational programming, which allows entry-level operators to quickly program jobs at the machine for overall faster setup times. They also both feature several advanced programming functions, some of which include Variable Acceleration Control, Smooth Corner Control and Smooth Machining Configuration.
The MEGA TURN 500M has a maximum diameter swing of 27.56" and can machine parts up to 24.80" in diameter and 21.65" high with a maximum load capacity of 1,500 pounds. Axis travels on the MEGA TURN 500M are 13.5" in X and 20.5" in Z.
