Mazak Webinar to Examine the Productivity Powers of MTConnect

Florence, Kentucky, December 18, 2012 – Mazak continues to actively support MTConnect, and one of the many ways in which the company backs this open-source, royalty-free manufacturing protocol is through awareness. On Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. ET, Mazak will host a free webinar that examines how this protocol can help Mazak customers improve the utilization of their manufacturing equipment and boost productivity.

The webinar titled "MTConnect: Downstream Applications to Increase Productivity and Competitiveness" and led by Neil Desrosiers, Mazak applications engineer/developer, will address the following:

  • How MTConnect exists to set the standard communication method for retrieving data from manufacturing equipment
  • How MTConnect works and what capabilities can be gained via the protocol
  • How Mazak makes it easy to implement the MTConnect standard
  • What an MTConnect-enabled facility looks like
Upcoming MTConnect advancements, including dynamic scheduling

According to Desrosiers, Mazak understands manufacturers need more than just advanced machine tools to gain the competitive advantage. Therefore, the company is highly focused on providing complete manufacturing solutions.

Currently, more than 200 Mazak machines are sold MTConnect compliant, including models from the following series: HORIZONTAL CENTER NEXUS; HYPER QUADREX; INTEGREX IV; INTEGREX e-Series, i-Series and j-Series; MEGATURN NEXUS; QUICK TURN NEXUS; SLANT TURN NEXUS; VARIAXIS and VERTICAL CENTER NEXUS. For existing Mazak machines in the field, the company offers MTConnect adapters.

Mazak uses MTConnect in its Florence, Kentucky-based North American Manufacturing Plant in a variety of ways, including monitoring the utilization of individual machines and entire manufacturing cells, error handling and cycle time validation.

As with all of Mazak's Discover Technology Webinars, "MTConnect: Downstream Applications to Increase Productivity and Competitiveness" is approximately one hour long. All it takes to participate is a computer, an Internet connection and a web browser. Registration for the webinar is now open at www.mazakusa.com/webinar.
